I have been seeing “e/acc” (Effective Accelerationism) on twitter for some time but just assumed it was too niche for a search to yield meaningful results. Recently a Forbes journalist decided to dox the creator of e/acc (@BasedBeffJezos) and the thing exploded in popularity. Turns out, it’s an interesting philosophy pretty much in line with what I already believed. It’s nice to see so many people agreeing with me.
The 4 e/acc principles from their substack post:
-
Increase the amount of energy we can harness as a species (climb the Kardashev gradient.) In the short term this almost certainly means nuclear fission. (Currently cheap photovoltaics and batteries are the way to go in my opinion)
-
Increase human flourishing via pro-population growth policies and pro-economic growth policies (emergent altruism, placing economic power and agency in the hands of the meek).
-
Create Artificial General Intelligence (allows supplementation of labor with capital) the single greatest force multiplier in human history.
-
Develop interplanetary and interstellar transport so that humanity can spread beyond the Earth. (Starship will mark a new era in human history. It will be like the great navigations and the Industrial Revolution.)
